Serbia Emphasis On ‘Collective Game’

U20 European Championship

Serbia coach Aleksandar Dzikic doesn't care for making predictions.

What he'd rather say to all those people keeping an eye on events at the U20 European Championship Men in Bilbao is that in every game, his squad will put forth their best effort and if that's not good enough to win, then so be it.

"After each game, we want to be able to say that we did our best and not have any regrets that we could have offered more," Dzikic said.

"What will be enough, and what our final ranking will be, it's difficult to predict before the tournament, the first game.

"The championship will be very good and balanced."

The Serbians' first game against Russia, which tips off on Thursday at 3:45pm local time, is one of three mouthwatering clashes the team will play in Group A.

Slovenia and Montenegro are also in the pool.

"The group is very strong," Dzikic said.

"According to the information we have collected, our rivals are coming at full strength and with serious intensions of having a high ranking.

"Of course, we have not come without ambition."

Dzikic admits the recent withdrawal from the squad of center Dejan Musli due to injury was a development that he hadn't anticipated and certainly didn't want.

"We will not have a dominant player in the paint, a priority under both baskets," the coach said.

"So we have to put all the cards on the collective game."

Petar Torlak, meanwhile, was the last player to be cut by Dzikic.

The 1.87m guard averaged just under 13 minutes per game and led the team in steals when Serbia won the U18 European Championship two years ago in Metz.

Serbia squad: Danilo Andusic, Milic Balgojevic, Branislav Dekic, Filip Duran, Nemanja Jaramaz, Milan Milovanovic, Nemanja Nedovic, Niksa Nikolic, Dusan Ognjenovic, Lazar Radosavljevic, Nikola Rondovic and Nikola Kalinic.
